The excellent Ottawa choir “Pleinchant” performed two of my pieces in their recent Christmas 2014 concert at the Orléans United Church in Orléans. Watch the video after the cut!
The first piece is an original composition, “Chorale (in Memory of Janet Gurr)” which I wrote for my Aunt Janet when she passed away last year. The second piece is a commission that I did for Pleinchant, an arrangement of The Huron Carol, Canada’s very first Christmas Carol, written by Jean de Brebeuf, a Jesuit Missionary, in the 1600’s. The first half is sung in the language it was originally written in (Wendat, the language of the Huron people), and the second half is sung in French. For the arrangement of The Huron Carol, I owe a debt to Heather Dale, who did an arrangement of the carol in Wendat, French and English, from where I found the original Wendat lyrics.
